Zuda Contracts
This week, I planned to start blogging about my first job as a 13 year old at my neighborhood comic shop. There are a few anecdotes worth putting out there.
But then Zuda went and spoiled our good time. The webmasters released the contracts for submission, first real news to come out of the operation since it was announced. I recently had optimistic things to say about Zuda and some friends/readers asked what I thought about DC’s terms.
I’ve only gone through the contract once but I don’t see anything inherently evil. I have no problem signing ownership of intellectual property over to DC Comics. Especially if it’s a legitimate opportunity to get my foot in the door and get paid. I was much more concerned about claims on my own image an likeness, something you see in reality tv or recording industry contracts. It’s a dirty little provision to keep you out of commission if things don’t work out. I consider myself a free-lancer in general and it’s important to me to maintain creative sovereignty right now.
With that caveat I’d like to informally announce that along with my writing partner, Tony Trov, and illustrator, Sacha Borischi, I’ll be throwing my hat into the ring with the rest of the hopeless masses. It’s too early to talk specifics but we’re half way through the required 8 screens. We’re on target for Mid-October, Early November. It all depends on when Zuda opens for solicitations, really.
Hope to see you at the starting line.
