Goodbye Bettie Page

Photobucket

Waiting for peak bar hours I checked in on the Newsarama Blog to find that Bettie Page, pin up idol of millions, died yesterday at 85. What’s really depressing is I spent most of today glued to cable news and I didn’t catch a wiff of this until Dirk Manning blogged it.

One of my first jobs ever was in a Comic Shop stacked with Bettie Page memorabilia. I could never smuggle the statues or t-shirts home; my mother would have killed me. But I was always mesmerized by the cut of her figure in black leather. She always looked like a badass. That’s probably why I dig bad girls like I do.

Bumsville, man. A world without Bettie Page is suddenly so much less interesting.
